I am an award-winning director and cinematographer, raised on the east coast and now living in Portland, OR. I specialize in documentary directing and verité shooting, with a keen eye for story. As a director and a cinematographer, I’m comfortable working as a one-man band, or with larger crews. It also means I listen as much as I shoot, with the goal of creating human moments that resonate. Documentary is delicate work, and I strive to bring a calm to set that allows participants to feel at ease, and open themselves to the process of creating stories that last. My goal with my work is to find the balance between artistic intention and authenticity. I want my work to feel elevated, but also real; to draw beauty from the mundane without feeling overwrought. Though I specialize in docs, I also bring these skills to creating commercial content that strives to towards truth. I have a decade of experience in crafting intimate interviews, and beautiful imagery, and I’d love to help tell your story.

My debut documentary feature, The Quiet Epidemic, had its World Premiere at HotDocs in 2022, as part of their special presentations program. It went on to be accepted into 20+ other festivals around the country, including DocNYC, Woodstock Film Festival, Mill Valley Film Festival, and Hamptons International Film Festival. The film was awarded “Best Documentary” at the Adirondack Film Festival, Macon Film Festival, and DocUTAH, as well as receiving the Excellence in Directing award by NYWIFT at the ReelAbilities Film Festival. The film had a national theatrical release, is distributed by First Run Features and Sideways Films, and is now available On Demand.

I am also the co-founder of Sideyard Studios with my wife, Cecilia Brown. Our most recent award winning documentary short, Strong Grandma, has played at festivals around the country including True/False, Doc10, and Big Sky and was screened at the Paris Olympics. My work has appeared on HBO, TIME magazine, Outside TV, the San Francisco MOMA, and has been supported by the Catapult Film Fund.
